Eastern Influence Week - Coaltar of the Deepers

As you may or may not know, I am a massive fan of the modern Japanese music scene. Not all of that J-pop and vis-kei crap you might have seen spoofed (and often rightly so) in mainstream media. I'm talking about the real music scene. This week, I thought I'd point out some of the bands and albums that have had a major influence on The Surfactants. -zb

Coaltar of the Deepers
Yukari Telepath

Coaltar of the Deepers has been around since 1991 and have released a massive amount of music. They've gone from grunge to metal to shoegaze and many things in-between. Their 2007 Yukari Telepath album combines all of this and adds a large electronic element. Still, they are extremely melodic, heavy and relentless. They haven't released anything new since 2007, so I'm really hoping they are still together and working on something new. I really wish there were more sound clips of this album to share. It's very high on my best-ever list.
